More Detail...
Cycling, by its very nature, puts repetitive strain onto the majority of the body. The human body adapts to repeated movements and asymmetries to maximise efficiency. This is the root of pain experienced to some degree by most cyclists at some point in their cycling lives (not including pain from pushing 'too' hard). The body will adapt but not ‘tell’ us that we have got it wrong. It's better to solve any potential problems before they arise, to minimise the risk of injury through further riding.
If you currently have issues with injuries, or pain that is exacerbated when on the bike, you would definitely benefit from a cycle fitting (obviously, cycle fitting cannot cure broken knees, but it can lessen the pain!). This can be anything from ankle pain all the way up to neck pain, with knees, wrists and back somewhere in between. Many of these issues can be solved through correct alignment of the joints through the use of wedges, footbeds, washers and shims. A bicycle offers mainly a symmetrical pattern of movement, but the chances are your body is not symmetrical. If you have injuries that cause a lot of discomfort on the bike, we can offer advice on what steps to take.
If you simply cannot find a comfortable position on the bike, it’s likely that it is simply down to setup: reach, saddle height, fore-and-aft position, etc. Finding a comfortable position on the bike will result in less fatigue and the ability to ride further and longer. The cycle fitting process will also determine the optimum position for your style of riding in terms of efficiency, finding the balance between maximum power output and comfort, whilst keeping in mind the diagnosis in terms of injury and / or pain.
